We owe a lot to the Indians, who taught us how to count without which no worthwhile scientific discovery could have been made.


FAN3 is a week-long event focusing on digital fabrication and international collaboration. It will gather the FabLab Asia Network which includes more than 80 labs located in 20 countries in the Asia Pacific regions and also local makers from India to make it a creative cultural festival. The main event will take place in Mumbai – Pune city from Jan 13 to Jan 15 2017 and in Kochi, Kerala from Jan 17 to Jan 18..

For the VISA, application you may need the invitation letter. Which you can claim by clicking the button below. Double check the information that you will fill.

Indian participants will not need the invitation letter as they will not require VISA to travel.

You have to plan your travel in such a way that you arrive in Mumbai at 12. The main conference will start on 13th of January 2017. The entire conference ticket covers the cost of travel from Mumbai to Kochi and from Kochi you have to plan your return journey to your hometown.

You have to take care of your local traveling and accommodation at Mumbai and Kochi.

You can book your accommodation in the “Accommodation” tab with our “Accommodation Partner”, please note that there are two separate bookings you have to make one for Mumbai and other for Kochi.

Dr. Anil Kakodkar

Former Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission of India

A brilliant engineer, he had a key role to play in designing and constructing the Dhruva reactor where much of India’s weapon grade plutonium is extracted. He was also part of India’s first bomb team in 1974.

      A daughter of the former Sheriff of Mumbai, Shaina is known in the Indian fashion industry as the ‘Queen of Drapes’ for draping a saree (sari) in fifty-four different ways.She holds a record in the Guinness Book of World Records for fastest saree drape. Shaina is also involved in social work through her charity fashion shows and two NGOs, ‘I Love Mumbai’ and ‘Giants International’.

        Dr. Myshkin Ingawale

        An inventor and has been a successful entrepreneur

        He has served as the Chief of Staff at Xiaomi India, a fast-growing mobile internet company, helping set up the India business for Xiaomi over 2014-2015. Prior to this, he co-founded Biosense, an internationally recognized med-tech company designing and building innovative, disruptive healthcare technologies. In the past, Myshkin has worked at Mckinsey & Company, on client engagements across the Banking, Technology, Pharma and Healthcare sectors.

                                Sandeep George

                                Avid Technologist

                                An avid technologist who discovered his passion in design elegance and excellence, indulging in the maker culture. He has a decade of industrial experience in engineering and research, and has helped in developing and maintaining digital storefronts for Adobe. He has authored three patents in enabling digital marketing via data science. Currently he is serving as a chief consultant developing design language and cloud architecture along with being a lead engineer at a healthcare start-up.

                                  Gaurav Patekar

                                  Maker focussed in creating Kinectic Sculptures

                                  A designer-maker-engineer having an identity crisis. He work at the intersection of art and technology, his work ranges from internet-of-things devices to interactive art installations. Currently he is obsessed with kinetic sculptures and plan to explore them for some time. He have studied design from National Institute of Design after a degree in engineering.

                                    Meena Vari


                                    Meena Vari is a curator and her practice is predominantly rooted in Visual and Performance Art. As an educator, she works with a combination of teaching philosophies and methods of understanding contemporary and new interventions of art, design, culture and society. Meena has formal training in Humanities, Art Education and Arts Management.

                                      Sunil Paul

                                      HOD Innovation & Design Lab at The Choice School

                                      Sunil Paul, a college professor turned school teacher, is currently heading the Innovative Design Laboratory at The Choice School, Kochi, India. He is a Postgraduate Gold medalist from SRI University receiving an M.Tech in Robotics.
                                      He is an innovator, running two start up companies, namely: Srishti Robotics Pvt Ltd and Techjeeva Technologies Pvt Ltd both based in Kochi; and mentors a couple of other start ups as well.

                                        Anupama Gowda

                                        Anupama Gowda Co-Founder/CCO of Workbench Projects is trained in the arts, management and served as an arts educator for nearly a decade. Committed to education and empowerment in the developmental sector, keeps the work of WP grounded to its vision, ‘To put the power of innovation in every hand’. An ideator, thinker and facilitator by practice has been a recipient of the Charles Wallace India Award, UK, Fellow at ARThink South Asia, GI/MMB, Delhi- Germany and also a beneficiary of MIT Media Lab, India Initiative workshop under their ‘Creative Learning’ track

                                          He not just invented the edible cutlery but from mid 2016 his efforts and focus is on developing automatic machine to augment production capacities and thus try to reduce the existing gap between huge orders and low supply. He is not an engineer by qualification but has become one by necessity and is enjoying his technical learning.

                                            Sandith Thandasherry has a passion for boats and today is proud to have launched India’s first solar ferry. An IIM-Madras graduate who has an MBA from INSEAD, France, this naval architect chose Kochi, Kerala, for his start-up NavAlt Solar & Electric Boats. ADITYA, India’s First Solar Ferry is also the largest solar-powered boat in India.

                                              Jabir Karat

                                              Environmentalist and Social Entrepreneur

                                              Started Green Worms, an organization dedicated to making the environment more safer by specializing in waste management techniques. Green Worms conducts waste literacy programmes in schools, where they educate young minds about the adverse effects of ill treated waste.

                                                Abhijith Sinha

                                                Founder of Project DEFY.

                                                He has designed many social innovations in India and Africa, including Bodacart – a $500 Ambulance for Africa, a waterless urinal, an accident detection app etc.

                                                  Praveen Patil

                                                  Praveen has been Google Summer of Code alumnus (GSoC 2014, 2015 and 2016). He is also mentor for Google Code-In and a proud Fedora volunteer. Actively involved in ExpEYES project (http://expeyes.in), teacher training programs and in the free time develops e-content for National Repository of Open Educational Resources (NROER).

                                                      Shyam is a graduate in Computer Science Engineering and a Masters in Art, Design and Communication.

                                                      He currently works as a Production Consultant for Kochi Muziris Biennale, which has allowed him to work with more than 275 artists across the globe over a period of three editions of Kochi Muziris Biennale. He was also the Project Manager for the first edition of MakerFest. And has also collaborated with artists and designers in the past.

                                                        Riyas Komu

                                                        Riyas Komu is an Indian artist and sculptor. Born in 1971 in a small town in Thrissur District in Kerala. He did Bachelors in Fine Arts & Masters in Fine Arts from the prestigious Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai.

                                                        Komu is a multimedia artist and activist working towards developing India’s art infrastructure.

                                                          Suraj Nandakumar

                                                          Foundee of DEXED and co - founder of RECITY Foundation

                                                          Suraj Nandakumar shares a deep interest in the city & urban processes and is an avid traveler. An Urban Planner and Architect by training, Suraj is a graduate of Politecnico di Milano and University of Illinois, Chicago and has led large urban infrastructure projects in India and abroad. Suraj is the founder of DEXED and co-founder of the RECITY Foundation. RECITY is a citizen collective design initiative that aligns with active urban projects to bring about a change in the way we perceive & interact with our cities. RECITY brings together citizens, government bodies, experts, NGOs and academia to create solutions that can be practically implemented.

                                                            In Asia region, the first FabLab was born in India. Since then, it has expanded to more than 81 sites in 21 countries.
                                                            During the 9th International FabLab Conference held in Japan in August of 2013 (FAB9), it was discussed and agreed that it is necessary to share knowledge and collaborate on certain issues in Asia. Therefore, the FabLab Asia Network was proposed.
